Promising to bring twenty-first century living to East Brunswick, the East Brunswick Village (EBV) project is transforming a previously neglected site into a bustling new community, residential and retail space. At Vast Electrical, we work on many different kinds of projects, but getting to work on the EBV is one of the most exciting we've been involved with recently.
What is the East Brunswick Village project?
EBV is a renewal project to turn the three hectare site that used to house the Sidney Cooke Fasteners factory into a microcosm of East Brunswick life.
Residential units will come in one, two or three bedroom varieties. Each distinct apartment building will have its own unique flavor and separate address, yet all be linked by open areas designed to get building residents meeting and greeting each other. Residents will also have access to 2,300 square metres of open communal space, with BBQs, dining areas, vegetable and herb gardens free for their exclusive use.
Not only will EBV provide a comfortable and classy residential experience, there will also be a thriving commercial sector too. A number of retail outlets will be based on site, including a Coles supermarket, a Liquorland, a bakery, chemist, health spa, numerous cafes, restaurants and more.

Vast Electrical's role in building East Brunswick Village
So what is Vast Electrical's role in all this? James Warburton, Senior Project Manager at Vast, explained that Vast was subcontracted by Hacer to complete the electrical, security and fire protection scope of the project.
"Hacer are one of the biggest tier-one builders in the space down here in Victoria," James explained. "We do a lot of work for most of the big companies in Melbourne and we're one of Hacer's preferred suppliers. Hacer won the EBV contract, they invited us to tender (alongside others), and we were awarded the subcontract, thanks to our reputation for delivering with them."
Construction on the project began in June of 2018, and at current pace, the first phase is expected to be completed by December 2019, with later phases taking the project somewhere into mid-2020.
When asked what made the Vast approach to electrical services different, James said "our aim on every project is to execute the job safely, on time and on budget, using our smarts. We think we can do things and add value better than our competitors, and the proof of that is how much return work we get from our clients; they tend to ask us to do the work, not the other way around. We aim to be very professional, organised, safe and efficient. If we keep doing that, we keep being successful," James said.
The EBV project is one that's sure to turn heads, and its success will further enhance Vast Electrical's reputation as one of the most professional, ethical and knowledgeable electrical companies in the country. As James said, "we offer smarter solutions than our competitors. We build things safely, on budget and on time — that's what makes our clients happy and ready to work with us time and time again."
